Alexandria—Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, is giving a three-part series presentation on Wednesday, 18 February 2009 in the BA Great Hall, in a one-day “Cinema Event” on the Art and Technique of Cinema.
The evolution of the seventh art is very much the history of the world in the last century, with all its hopes and desperation, its light and dark moments. But it is also the story of brilliant men and women whose artistry redefined our perception of ourselves and the world.
Using his signature technique of accessible language and enormous amount of visual material, Dr. Serageldin will show how the various elements of art come together to make a successful effect and how and why some films and some scenes have marked us all.
The day will start at 10:00 am with a presentation titled “Making Movies: The Development of Cinema”. At 12:30 pm Dr. Serageldin will speak about “The Art of Film”. The last presentation on that day will be on 3:30 pm entitled “The Techniques of Cinematography”.
The day is open for everyone, whether they are cinema specialists or simply cinema lovers.
