The United Nations’ declaration of 2008 as an international year devoted to linguistic diversity confirms the importance and the worldwide relevance of linguistic diversity and is an iindicative of a growing level of global awareness.
Linguamón-House of Languages was invited to participate in the 1st Global Seminar on Linguistic Diversity, Globalisation and Development organized by UNESCO and the UN’s Department of Public Information to bring the International Year of Languages (IYL) 2008 to an end. During the Seminar, Linguamón-House of Languages and the Roberto Marinho Foundation expressed their willingness and determination to continue the task initiated at the IYL and announced the continuation of this series of Seminars.
In December 2009, Linguamón-House of Languages and the Roberto Marinho Foundation organized the 2nd Global Seminar on Linguistic Diversity, Globalisation and Development in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with the support of UNESC0 and the UN’s Department of Public Information. The seminar was devoted to the importance of media, broadcasting and new technologies for linguistic diversity.
The 3rd Global Seminar jointly organized by Linguamón-House of Languages, the Roberto Marinho, Foundation, UNESCO, the UN’s Department of Public Information and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina represents the continuation of this series and will take place on the 28 & 29 November 2010 at the Bibliotheca Alexandria in Alexandria, Egypt.
