Jim Flanagan

Jim Flanagan graduated from University College Dublin with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Agricultural Science following which he spent six years studying and working at Michigan State University and West Virginia University in the US in Population Genetics, Biometrics and Computer Science. He has a Master's Degree in Public Service Management from Trinity College Dublin. He spent most of his career in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in Ireland culminating as Head of the Agri-Food Technical and Professional Services and Chief Advisor to the Minister in these areas. He also acted as advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on agri-food development aid and planned and oversaw a number of development aid projects in Africa. In 2002 he became Director of Teagasc, the Agriculture & Food Development Authority. He recently retired from this position and now works part-time for Teagasc on strategic planning. Menbership and Distinctions: Fulbright Scholar and Teagasc Walsh Fellow. President of the European Association for Animal Production. A Vice-President of the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses. Member of the EU Standing Committee on Agriculrural Research. Member of the EURAGRI Committee. Member of the British Society for Animal Production.
